Type size: - + Email Print RSS Feed NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) – Zygem and Rubicon Genomics have struck an agreement that will incorporate Zygem's enzymatic nucleic acid extraction technology with Rubicon's pre-analytical platform in an offering aimed at DNA and RNA analysis, Zygem said today.
The integration initially will focus on diagnostic single-cell whole genome amplification kits, but it could expand to include other research and diagnostic products, Zygem said.
The Zygem technology uses a thermophilic enzyme to extract DNA from samples using a closed-tube system, which the company said reduces the time and cost of the extraction process.
Rubicon plans to launch its PicoPlex kits, which integrate the Zygem system into a novel method to amplify single genomes, and is aimed at the genetic diagnostics and cancer diagnostics markets. The product will enable reference labs to begin qPCR, microarray, or sequencing analysis less than three hours after collecting patient cells.
Zygem also noted that the US Patent Office has issued an allowance for an application covering thermophilic enzymes that are used in its nucleic acid extraction technology, and that it expects the patent to be issued later this year.
